Album of the Month – February, 2019

Every month we collect our favorite albums of the month. Here are our favorites of February:

Ethan:

Encoffinized – Chambers of Deprivation

Rotten death metal that keeps it simple and gross. Maggot Stomp just keeps cranking out the hits.

Elias:

Astronoid – Astronoid

It has more mature composition from the previous album and the airy atmosphere does a great job connecting with the listener.

Spenser:

Dream Theater – Distance Over Time

This is never any competition when it comes to Dream Theater. This album is absolutely stunning and is one of the best offerings from this band.

Hannes:

Soen – Lotus

February has been a month with great releases. Still, this is my favorite by far. Been listening to this non-stop. Less heavy than their older material, but it sounds like a lot of thought has been put into it. Overall great atmosphere, outstanding songwriting and some very catchy and memorable moments.

Connor:

Vanum – Ageless Fire

The New Mexico quartet’s second album is a triumph in black metal, burning with dark energy while maintaining a strong approach to production and musical coherence.

Leon:

Saor – Forgotten Paths

Even after 10+ listens it’s still a breathtaking experience. Early AOTY contender.

Rutger:

Der Rote Milan – Moritat

An awesome atmospheric black metal record that’s really captivating. It starts off with a flute that doesn’t sound silly and only gets better from then on. Highly recommended for anyone who’s into black metal!

Darryl:

Rhapsody of Fire – The Eighth Mountain

New vocalist Giacomo Voli and drummer Manu Lotte had some big shoes to fill and boy did they ever fill them. The beginning of the “Nephilim’s Empire Saga” is full of coral and orchestral arrangements with soaring courses and has what’s been missing from the last two Rhapsody of Fire albums, which is that Epic feel. Rhapsody of Fire is back with a vengeance.
