Upcoming Albums – August 18 2023

Here are our most anticipated releases of the week!

Jared is looking forward to:

Dripping Decay – Festering Grotesqueries

Some grinding death metal out of Portland, with a silly little man on the cover, who they’ve affectionately named “Drippy”.

Skálmöld – Ydalir

Icelandic folk/black metal. Exactly my kind of thing.

Godthrymm – Distortions

Epic doom featuring ex-My Dying Bride members. Their debut from 2020 was really good, so I’ve been looking forward to this for a while.

Nathan is looking forward to:

Horrendous – Ontological Mysterium

Season of Mist hit again. If you like past Horrendous albums, this is a must-listen, and if you don’t you should really try them again because this band is great. This is death metal that ventures away from the rigid confines of what death metal is sometimes restrained to be.

OXX – The Primordial Blues

I had no expectations and was still confused. This is an album that demands your time, and is engaging enough to deserve it right out of the gate. There’s probably a bunch of stuff with this that I’m missing because I haven’t listened to it enough yet, but that will be rectified.

Pyrkagion – The Katechon And The Unending Fire

There have been a surprising number of 2-song black metal EPs running over 20 minutes that are worth listening to. Throw this one on the pile, after giving it a shot.

Sanguine Glacialis – Maladaptive Daydreaming

Calling this “melodic death metal” understates the record. For when Fleshgod Apocalypse and Septicflesh aren’t enough.
