A massive album of grandiose riffs, rousing choruses and infectous songwriting. I’m so glad this album has been getting the love it deserves, because it’s a triumph.
Nathan:
Plague of Rats is some straightforward guitar music. Brainstorm‘s love and passion for heavy metal evidently have not gone away after decades, and my ears are better for it. Give me more of this classic heavy metal sound.
Blistering technical death metal from the past. No more pretention, concern, or need to do something beyond flex remains in Psalmus Mortis, instead all you get is glitzy guitar lines and difficult syncopations.
Gold is a lot, and it’s not something I’m always in the mood for. But when I want relentless pummeling with absolutely no compromise, Scour have made a marvelous place to go.
Time seems to pass differently when listening to Novarupta. Astral Sands is worth returning to again and again, even as it stretches itself out and shrinks the rest of your day. This record is genuine, immense, and distant.
