The Drowning – The Radiant Dark

I’ve had the privilege of reviewing this album and I’m excited for others to hear its greatness as well. A death/doom metal masterpiece with foreboding atmosphere and accomplished musicianship. One of my favorite albums I’ve listened to this year.

Leon is looking forward to Esoteric’s A Pyrrhic Existence, Hideous Divinity’s Simulacrum, and Rorcal’s Muladona:

Esoteric – A Pyrrhic Existence

Honestly, there just ain’t funeral doom metal without Esoteric. They participated in hammering in the style standards back in the early days. Not only that, but ever since then they haven’t stopped releasing high quality stuff. It’s not just that there isn’t a bad record in their discography, there ain’t even just a good record. It’s all top notch.

Hideous Divinity – Simulacrum

Do you want to listen to some decent brutal tech death? Are all your preferences regarding this already contained in the previous proposition? Hideous Divinity don’t stand out particularly within the style, but it’s still very well executed and worth listening.

Rorcal – Muladona

Pack up sludge, hardcore and black metal, make it a total sensory overdrive and add a lot of atmospheric elements to make this stuff even more sinister, and you get Rorcal. Do you like your metal not just angry but expressing absolute blistering fury and despair with existence? This band’s for you.

Rutger is looking forward to Schammasch’s Hearts of No Light:

Schammasch – Hearts of No Light

Schammasch’s latest full-length, Triangle is one of my favorite records of the decade. With their latest EP, The Maldoror Chants, they went for a more atmospheric sound (a bit like the third disk of Triangle). This Friday, they’re releasing their next full-length album and I’m stoked. The two singles show that they went back to their black metal sound, but they’ve also developed their sound. Can’t wait to hear the whole record!
