Album of the Month – April, 2019

Every month we collect our favorite albums of the month. Here are our favorites of April:

JP:

Illyria – The Carpathian Summit

This record is not your typical post-black metal record. This is the record that will take the genre to new heights with its many styles blended into one perfect package. This is a beyond beautiful record in which every song is absolutely stellar and the overall musicianship is monumental for how young this band and its members are. This is the record you never knew you needed.

Connor:

Nick Johnston – Wide Eyes in the Dark

With his latest record, Mr. Johnston reestablishes himself at the top of the lead guitar world, delivering a record so full of briliance and emotional power that other instrumental music seems to pale in comparison. Nick knows when to shred and when to hang back, something he does better than anyone, and all of the music on this latest album is tastefully deliberate.

Leon:

Waste of Space Orchestra – Syntheosis

I firmly believe that there is not enough dark psychedelic music and this release delivers everything I’ve ever wanted in that regard.

Hannes:

Exumer – Hostile Defiance

Rock-solid German Thrash. Not trying to reinvent the wheel, they stick to their sound and refine it with some subtle melodies here and there. Kinda reminds me of the latest Kreator record a bit, which is not a bad thing at all.

Rutger:

Dead to a Dying World – Elegy

This ambient sludge/doom record came along on the review calendar and it was the most pleasant surprise in some time. Such a diverse record, dissonant and beautiful, I’d recommend everyone to give it a listen, put it on once and you’ll keep going back to it.

Joey:

Inter Arma – Sulphur English

What to say that I didn’t already say in my review. This album is a stunning masterpiece. Every time I listen to it I get lost in the soundscape.

Spenser:

Numenorean – Adore

With an incredible debut, this band set some expectations that would be difficult to meet. They met them and exceeded them, proving that Numenorean is not a one-trick pony.

Reid:

Inferi – The End of an Era

Full speed teach death with a melodic edge. Heavy, fast, and littered with catchy riffs.
