Rick has been listening to Grand Magus’ Wolf God:

Grand Magus – Wolf God

The perfect balance between heavy, doom, and a tiny hint of hard rock. Great for taking a break from power metal without giving up on the fantasy stuff. I just finished God Of War 2018 and Grand Magus perfectly fit the hole left in my heart.

If I had discovered this album before the end of March, it might have been my AOTM. It’s atmospheric, captivating, industrial doom with an intriguing touch of electronic elements.

Jared has been listening to Moonsorrow’s Voimasta ja Kunniasta:

Moonsorrow – Voimasta ja Kunniasta

Between reviews, I’ve been listening to this album over and over. I used to not be able to pick my favorite Moonsorrow record, as they’re all great, but Voimasta ja Kunniasta has proved to be their most memorable release and one that I always come back to. Moonsorrow in my opinion are one of the best folk bands out there, and in addition to a bulletproof discography Voimasta is really their masterpiece. Absolute must-listen.

Alustrium – A Monument To Silence

When I listen to an album for the first time, I never know how it will stick with me. A Monument To Silence didn’t immediately jump out as an excellent record, but here we are. One of last year’s best technical death metal records, and I can’t get enough of it.

Wiegedood – There’s Always Blood At The End of The Road

To be frank I’m not overly impressed with the output of black metal so far this year. Couple of great ones, some decent but not a long-term affair for me, lots of filler. The genre could definitely do better. Here’s one of those that truly clicked for me. A furious riff-fest and a hypnotic journey at the same time. Plenty little songwriting experiments that always pay off. It hits you so hard you’re instantly dazed and entrapped in its maelstrom. And I keep coming back for more.
